Objectives:The effectiveness of Zithromax for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia and community acquired urinary tract infections has been evaluated.
Methods:We evaluated the efficacy of Zithromax for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and community-acquired urinary tract infections (CAPDUIs).
Results:Twenty-one patients (mean age: 60.3±13.4 years) had CAP and seven (15.2%) received CAPDUI with either Zithromax (n=7) or no treatment (n=9) at the time of enrollment (3 months after enrollment).
Conclusion:This study demonstrated that the combination of Zithromax and a single dose of amoxicillin resulted in complete resolution of CAP, CAPDUI, and CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with placebo. The combination of Zithromax with a single dose of amoxicillin resulted in complete resolution of CAP, CAPDUI, and CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with the combination of Zithromax with amoxicillin alone. Zithromax was associated with a reduction in CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with the combination of Zithromax with amoxicillin alone (p = 0.0009).

In the present study, the combination of Zithromax and amoxicillin resulted in complete resolution of CAP, CAPDUI, and CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with placebo, which was also associated with a reduction in CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with the combination of Zithromax and amoxicillin alone. This finding is consistent with the previous studies that showed that the combination of Zithromax with amoxicillin resulted in complete resolution of CAP, CAPDUI, and CAPDUI-treated patients' symptoms compared with the combination of Zithromax and amoxicillin alone. Therefore, this combination treatment resulted in the same improvement as the treatment with Zithromax alone.
